South African music star turns personal recovery journey into a national endurance challenge
-
HiPace Cycle Challenge Presented by Prince Kaybee will see the award-winning musician cycle from Johannesburg to Durban in a powerful demonstration of resilience, determination and purpose.
JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA – 11 June 2026: Acclaimed South African DJ, producer, entrepreneur and philanthropist Prince Kaybee will embark on the most demanding physical challenge of his life when he cycles from Johannesburg to Durban over three consecutive days as part of the inaugural HiPace Cycle Challenge Presented by Prince Kaybee.
Taking place from 13–15 June 2026, the challenge will see Prince Kaybee, born Kabelo Motsamai, attempt to cover more than 600 kilometres across Gauteng, the Free State and KwaZulu-Natal, averaging approximately 200 kilometres per day; surpassing his current personal best cycling distance of 158 kilometres.
More than a sporting challenge, HiPace Cycle Challenge Presented by Prince Kaybee is a story of resilience, reinvention and determination.
Just two years ago, Prince Kaybee’s active lifestyle was brought to an abrupt halt following a serious motorcycle accident that left him with multiple fractures and required four surgeries. For someone who identified strongly as a long-distance runner and fitness enthusiast, the prospect of never running competitively again was a difficult reality to accept.
Instead of focusing on what had been lost, Prince Kaybee chose to focus on what remained possible. He turned to cycling as part of his rehabilitation. What began as recovery soon became therapy, passion and purpose.
Through months of training, discipline and determination, he gradually rebuilt both his physical strength and mental confidence.
Now, he is taking that journey public.
“HiPace is bigger than cycling,” says Prince Kaybee. “It’s about proving that setbacks don’t have to define you. After my accident, I had every reason to stop. Instead, I chose to rebuild. This challenge represents every person who’s had to start again after life changed their plans.”
The route itself was selected to showcase some of South Africa’s most breathtaking landscapes and iconic cycling corridors. The HiPace Cycle Challenge Presented by Prince Kaybee will begin in Midrand on Saturday, 13 June 2026, travelling through the Free State to Bethlehem before crossing the mountain terrain of the Drakensberg and Oliviershoek Pass en route to Pietermaritzburg. The final day follows the iconic Amashova cycling route into Durban, culminating at Durban South Beach.
The challenge will conclude in Durban, marking the culmination of an extraordinary journey of endurance, determination, and purpose. In keeping with the campaign’s commitment to giving back, a portion of the proceeds will be donated to a chosen charity, extending its impact beyond the challenge itself.
