This season’s runners-up in the Mzansi Magic competition were Western Cape’s Team Vusi Nova
Last night saw Team Ntencane and KwaZulu-Natal come out tops as the winners of Mzansi Magic’s Clash of the Choirs season 4.
This follows an incredible winning streak from the choir and their choirmaster: they had enjoyed a hat-trick of wins before taking home the grand prize as the top choir of the season – which comes with an incredible R1-million prize.
Unlike in the early stages of the competition, the ultimate Clash of the Choirs winner was decided by viewer votes.
Additionally, a charity chosen by the winning choir will be gifted an incredible R250,000 donation. Team KZN chose the Ntenga Foundation, whose focus is on youth, water, sanitation, and entrepreneurship.
The glittering live finale, hosted by the duo of Bontle Modiselle and DJ Sabby, kicked off on a stellar note with a medley where both the KZN and Western Cape choirs backed judges Dr Tumi, Buhlebendalo Mda and Zwai Bala as they performed their own tracks.
Team Ntencane had a season that saw them breathe new creativity and life into various genres, from hip-hop, mbaqanga and gospel, to R&B, pop and kwaito. For their final performance, they paid tribute to the Zulu kingdom, later closing with an uplifting gospel medley.
“We would like to congratulate Team Ntencane and KwaZulu-Natal on this win. They – along with every choir and choirmaster who took part in this season – reminded us of the impressive creativity our artists possess. It was a pleasure to watch them perform incredible renditions of local songs every week,” says Shirley Adonisi, Director of Local Entertainment Channels at M-Net.
She continues: “It’s been an exciting season of Clash of the Choirs, one that allowed us to show the depth and breadth of raw, true talent we have throughout the country, ready to shine onstage given the opportunity. We hope some new musical careers are able to bloom going forward.”
Despite missing out on the final prize, Team Vusi Nova had an incredible run in the competition. They had been eliminated earlier in the season, only to later make a dramatic comeback, making it all the way to the finale.
Over 13 weeks, Clash of the Choirs season 4 kept viewers enthralled with incredible vocals, creative new renditions of familiar songs and emotional behind-the-scenes stories.
