A Limpopo mayor of Fetakgomo Tubatse local municipality Eddie Maila in his remarkable journey to donate school uniform.
The Mayor and his team left the comfort of their office together with members of the council ‘s executive committee and visited Mokutung Primary School, situated in a deep rural village of Mokutung (Ward 1)to hand over school uniform to impoverished learners ravaged by poverty.
Maila said “I identified learners whose parents are unable to afford to buy them proper school uniform”.
The back to school campaign ‘s ultimate objective was to restore the confidence and reduce absenteeism among learners who go to school without proper uniform. However, some learners are unable to attend school which is an important major contributing impact on the school results.
He said”The municipality identified primary and Secondary schools to benefit from the programme in a quest to improve the quality of education in the Fetakgomo Tubatse”.
He has reitarated his call to all councillors and ward committees to be part of school activities and play active role in assisting schools to function effectively.
He urged”We are still appealing to social partners and the business community to donate towards the Mayoral school uniform campaign so that we can reach many schools and learners”.
Research inducated that children who attend school get to expand their world view and think beyound. They dream bigger. It is only schooling that can help them to realise their dreams.
Their hardship and difficult circumstances under which children are living is a contributing factor why many do not achieve their dreams. Most parents cannot afford to buy school shoes as they depend on social grant for survival.
The municipality did not allow to let their circumstance pull them down.Consequently children from poor families find themselves facing everyday challenges such as hunger.
Most families in rural and remote villages indeed they are facing deep financial hardship as a result are not able to take care of their children with school uniform including stationary, school fees, and shoes that result in many not able to attend school.
