In a grand gesture marking the 25th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and South Africa, the South African-China ShenZhen Chamber of Commerce organized an illustrious ceremony on August 21st. The event, steeped in significance, gathered distinguished guests and dignitaries, emblematic of the enduring partnership and shared goals between these two nations.

Among the esteemed attendees was Terisa Hsu-Lee, a Mrs. South Africa Top 5 finalist, whose presence lent grace and importance to the occasion, signifying the unity between South African and Chinese cultures and communities.

The event was graced by notable figures such as the Honorable Acting Consular Mr. Zhou Yujiang, representing the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Johannesburg, alongside esteemed South African government officials like Dr. Zwele Mkize. Additionally, the presence of Honorable Mr. Liu Xin, Chairman of Shenzhen Overseas Exchange Association, and various leaders from overseas Chinese communities and business entrepreneurs, elevated the evening’s significance to unprecedented heights.

Terisa Hsu-Lee recounted her experience with gratitude, having had the privilege of serving as a translator for Mr. Chen Zhen Wen, a delegate from the China Shenzhen Chamber of Commerce, during his keynote speech. Addressing an audience of over 800 attendees, Terisa regarded this role as a cherished highlight of her journey as a Mrs. South Africa finalist. Mr. Chen Zhen Wen entrusted Terisa with the task of conveying his message in English, representing the Shenzhen delegation—an honor she deeply appreciated.

Reflecting on her role, Terisa emphasized her recognition as an ambassador fostering relations between South Africa and Asia, acknowledging the pivotal role these connections play in propelling economic growth in her country.

Beyond the festivity, the Chamber showcased their commitment to societal progress by generously donating R200,000 to Eketsang Secondary School through the Adopt a School Foundation. This noble gesture underscored the Chamber’s dedication to supporting education and uplifting local communities.
