Minister of Basic Education, Angie Motshekga this morning Monday 15 2021, during her address at Nellmafious secondary school (Pretoria), was reported on national television saying "educated man won't rape."
Minister Motshekga said her comments were taken out of context. According to the Minister the comments were made in relation to gender-based violence.
"my remarks must not be taken out of the context of educating children to develop them to become better people." - Motshekga said
Newzroom Africa publicly broadcasted a video footage this morning about the Minister, that she explained that she was misunderstood, the video footage shows Motshekga telling a group of pupils she held at the belief that educated, "civilised" men did not rape, and that the more educated you were, the less you were likely to be involved in wrongdoing accounting to the Minister.
The address by the Minister was to mark the first day of school in 2021 under the world pandemic.
