The West Rand is one of the five (5) development corridors within the Gauteng City Region, and it has been earmarked for new industries and economic opportunities. The goal of the Western Development Corridor is for the diversification of the West Rand economy from traditional mining to focus on new industries, new economic areas such as tourism, agri-business, agro-processing, and renewable energy, and development of new cities. 

The Maximum Group Holdings (Pty) Ltd, through is SPV, Protea Agri Park (Pty) Ltd is pleased to announce a partnership with Afribiz Developments a subsidiary of Afribiz Invest, to develop and implement the West Rand Mega Park. Afribiz Invest has concluded an acquisition of 50% shareholding in Protea Agri Park (Pty) Ltd, which is the project development company for the West Rand Mega Park.The West Rand Mega Park is situated at the intersection of R558 and N12 highway, at the entrance of Soweto, Protea Glen. It comprises of 302.6HA of land, zoned Industrial 1, with all the studies and rights in place. Upon installation of services the property can be immediately proclaimed. 

The West Rand Mega Park will comprise of Agri-Processing Hub and Industrial Park, with Food City Centre which will include Fresh Produce Market and various Food Markets and other ancillary services. These include: Meat and Chicken Market, Fish and Seafood Market, Dry Goods Market, Flower Market, Funeral one-stop retail Centre, Wedding one-stop retail Centre, Hotel with Conference Facilities, Training Centre, Restaurants and Fast-Food Outlets, and Facility and Kids Recreational Area.The development will also include the following: Container Depot, Truck Stop with diesel depot, Logistic Hub, Solar Farm and other ancillary services.

The Development value is in approximately R20 Billion and will take about 4 to 5 years to complete. The project will create over 50 000 permanent jobs and over 7500 temporary jobs. It will be a major economic and social boost in Soweto, Lenasia and Randfontein area. The Development will empower many businesses in and around Soweto and as part of the supply chain. These businesses will benefit directly by supplying the products and services to the businesses in the West Rand Mega Park. With this, many jobs will be created directly and indirectly. 

The West Rand District Municipality is in full support of the West Rand as being part the SEZ. Other strategic stakeholders such as Local authorities, West Rand Development Agency, Gauteng Infrastructure Funding Agency have expressed interest in obtaining SEZ status for West Rand Mega Park. The Gauteng Premier - Mr DavidMakhura has publicly expressed support in driving the process of SEZ nomination for the West Rand Mega Park as this will be the catalyst for the development of the West Rand in general. As the Developers we look forward to working in partnership with government and other stakeholders to promote growth and development as part of the Growing Gauteng 2030 Plan.
