Legendary former Bafana Bafana and Leeds United striker Phil Masinga has passed away at the age of (49), after a short illness.

Masinga was was addmitted to hospital in December (2018), after falling to an undisclosed illness.

Masinga was most famous for his long-range strike against Congo at FNB Stadium in 1997, which secured South Africa qualification to its very first Fifa World Cup finals in France the following year (France98′).

During his playing career, he earned 58 caps for the South African national team, scoring 18 times and retired as the country’s all-time leading goal-scorer.
